When a family member dies it can be very traumatic for a child. Bereaved children need a person that they can talk with, someone who will listen, a friend who will care, and peers who understand and support their grief. T.L.C. (Talk, Listen, Care) for Kids affords an opportunity for bereaved children to come together in a structured setting to safely explore their feelings and experiences and work toward a healthy, well-adjusted future.
T.L.C. is for...
- Girls and boys ages 5-13 that have lost a parent, sibling, or other significant person.
- Children who want to talk openly about their memories, experiences, grief, feelings, questions, and changes.
- Children wishing to share feelings and to learn from other children about grief.
The T.L.C. for Kids group meets weekly for 8 consecutive weeks. Each session will...
- Give children the opportunity to meet and talk about their grief with children of their own age.
- Help children feel less lonely in their grieving process,
- Encourage them to express their feelings.
- Educate them about the feelings and thoughts they may have while experiencing grief.
The program is overseen by a mental health professional and facilitated by professionally trained volunteers. Pre-registration by parents is required.
The next group is scheduled for Autumn 2012.
